Christmas in the Valley

Bacup Market | Sun 18th - Tues 20th Dec 2022

'Christmas in the Valley' was an original family show devised by Horse + Bamboo, as a retelling of a Christmas story, in a very familiar setting of 'The Valley', taking audiences on a whirlwind adventure that has kept Christmas in the hearts of many all year round.

It followed the story of Emmeline Skewed, who views the world in black and white. No room for colour, no time to waste on celebrations, Emmeline doesn’t like Christmas; she doesn’t like people that much either! Just as she’s settling down for a really miserable Christmas Eve, new visitors keep turning up on her door step - or out of her fireplace!

As an immersive adventure through the Rossendale Valley at Christmas, this interactive show was brought to life through a mix of animation, puppetry & live music.

“Absolutely loved it, as did my 3-year-old son.  He's been to the theatre in Manchester before, but it's expensive... Fantastic value for money and accessible; having access to culture and art on my doorstep is so important for me and my

family. Thank you!”

“I really enjoyed how accessible the production was.  A very engaging interpretation”

"Fantastic show. Loved

the children getting invovled."

“Who'd have thought - all this on the market. Great use of space...can we have more please? Oh no, wrong show!"

"Nice to have

fun in Bacup."

“This is great for children with

additional needs who may not be

able to sit down appropriately. Lovely experience!”

2022 saw This Here Festival launch for our first year of family-friendly entertainment and creative workshops across two days in Bacup.

These included live music performances from Baybeat Streetband (who are returning for 2023), Bill Lloyd, Kayleigh Hall and Mento B.The Festival also brought us Theatre from Dommie B, as well as an interactive walkabout and Street Theatre from Godzillatown, Meadow Sprites, Lollipop Patrol and Out of the Deep Blue. The fun didn't stop there - we also had craft workshops with artists such as Jill Randall and even local business Brush and Pencil!

You may have also seen Ecko the giant puppet who went for a wander around the town and market across our site.

Sounds great, right? Why not check out "This Here '23" to see what we have in store next?
